Most of the epithets used in portraying stunning natural environments usually do not do justice to the nature of the Zadar region and fail in describing its true astonishing beauty! WATER SPORTS

Zadar Region

If you are into water sports, but not necessarily sailing or swimming, the Zadar region comes forward once again with a great variety of choices!

Lovers of rafting, kayaking and canoeing should definitely visit spectacular Zrmanja Canyon, where 69 km of the eponymous green river wedged between rocks and hills steadily flows southward towards the sea.

The River Zrmanja with its short rapid tributary Krupa however offers dozens of exciting travertine waterfalls and reaches all the way to the Adriatic Sea, where in many summer resorts of the region you may want to try some paddle boating, sea kayaking, windsurfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding and other similar sports. Numerous locations along the coast and around the islands are also excellent spots for quality diving, with crystal-clear waters of the calm sea, diverse seabed, teeming marine life and lovely coves of the area that together provide an unforgettable underwater experience.

CLIMBING ACTIVITIES

Starigrad Paklenica

Whether you like hiking and trekking or prefer rock climbing and caving, you will enjoy the landscape of the region to your heart’s content!

Grand peaks of magnificent Velebit Mountain, jagged cliffs of imposing canyons, high hills of the panoramic coast and steep slopes of many charming islands almost compel you to take action and start exploring mountainous sites of the area.

Traverse Paklenica National Park, a natural haven of pine forests with over 150 km of hiking trails, and climb its formidable canyons of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica. In the whole area around Velebit there is also about 80 caves and pits, with the most attractive being Modrič Cave, Cerovac Caves, Manita Peć Cave, and Strašna Peć Cave on Dugi Otok (Long Island). You may also consider climbing cliffs of Telašćica Nature Park or hills of Pag Island, but whatever you decide on after careful deliberation, you will have a tremendous active vacation and a fond memory of the Zadar region.

PANORAMIC BIKING

Zadar Region

The long, high and indented coast of the Zadar region is an ideal place for panoramic biking, offering exceptional scenery and breath-taking views!

There are a number of well-charted panoramic biking trails in the region that will offer excitement and pleasant first-rate recreation. 

If you decide to take a ride north the coast of Zadar, head towards Zaton, Nin, Vir Island, Starigrad and Pag Island and enjoy a wonderfully diverse setting. At the same time, you will be passing the most western part of mainland Dalmatia at Privlaka, the rugged moonlike surface of Pag, the rocky hills of Vir, the steep trails of Paklenica National Park and many other beautiful locations. If your journey takes you south towards Bibinje, Sukošan, Biograd, Pakoštane and Lake Vrana Nature Park, you will bike on slightly less demanding routes and come closer to the beautiful sea resorts. If you however prefer biking around islands, you may try great scenic trails of Pašman and Ugljan or take a ferry and roam around free on incredible Dugi Otok.

Follow the trails of Winnetou by taking personalized organized tours of Paklenica’s filming locations, where the noble Apache chief of Karl May’s novels shared blood, wisdom and brotherhood with his Christian companion Old Shatterhand. Have a blast by visiting the entertainment centre of Fun Park Biograd and by trying its themed adrenalin rides. On the other hand, if you do not mind pulling a muscle or two to create your own personal story of an intriguing mystical adventure, then rather go to more private spots like the Sacred Triangle and Telašćica, on Pag Island and Long Island (Dugi Otok) respectively.
